Broodmother

Broodmother functions as the Slab's reproductive heart - the matriarchal source from which all jailers originate through continuous breeding. Her Needolin echoes reveal obsessive maternal instincts reduced to simple imperatives: 'Hatchy, hatchy! Eggy, eggy... Warmly, safely... Grow the brood... Eat the food... Yummy! Yummy!' This childlike repetition masks the threat she represents as the factory producing the Slab's enforcement apparatus. Her madness and confinement to her warren suggest either deliberate containment or self-imposed isolation driven by breeding compulsion. The Hunter's Journal expresses hope that her death will accelerate the prison's demise by eliminating its source of replacements - cutting off the Slab's ability to perpetuate its 'distasteful order.'

Broodmother hides behind a secret Slab passage that only opens after accepting 'The Wailing Mother' Wish from Songclave's Wishwall. Upon entry, you face three enemy waves before the boss fight: • Wave 1: 4 Freshflies • Wave 2: 3 Freshflies + 1 Guardfly • Wave 3: 3 Freshflies + 1 Wardenfly After clearing these gauntlets, Broodmother flies to arena center and wails, initiating combat. Following her defeat, a Broodling can be found in her arena upon return - presumably orphaned offspring.

Broodmother hovers in the arena's upper half, employing matriarchal aggression. Contact damage deals 2 Masks. Phase 1 Arsenal: • Broodspawn: Spawns 1-2 Freshflies diagonally below her. Their explosions don't damage her. • Muck Spit: Spits 1-2 muck globs successively diagonally downward, sticking to ground. Globs can be attacked to destroy. Muck deals no damage but immobilizes on contact - requires 4 ATTACK presses to break free. • Grabbing Leap: Rears back before launching across roughly half arena, landing groundward. If you're close to ground after landing, she turns and leaps again. Can repeat up to 2 times total. • Buzz Away: Flies backward short distance when you're too close post-attack. Phase 2 Enhancement (385 HP threshold): Roars and immediately performs Wild Slam, adding this to her arsenal: • Wild Slam: Wails then slams body between floor and ceiling 5 times, slowly advancing with each slam while turning at walls without stopping. Always slams downward first, ending with ground slam. Tactical Recommendations: • Phase 1's primary threat: Muck Spit immobilization leaves you vulnerable to Grabbing Leap. Watch telegraphs and evade - she always aims low. • Most attacks avoidable while airborne. Don't position above her after final Grabbing Leap - she flies directly upward afterward. • Freshflies provide Silk generation and pogo opportunities for aerial positioning. • Broodmother proves extremely predictable - nearly always shoots muck and Freshflies first, followed by Grabbing Leap series. Enables safe mid-air healing after 2 mucks and 2 Freshflies. • Wild Slam strategy: Stay close and dash under as soon as she rushes upward. Avoid walls during this attack - corner ceiling impacts create unpredictable movement.
