Moss Grotto
Hornet's starting area in Pharloom, featuring lush moss-covered caverns and the mysterious Ruined Chapel sub-area.
Walkthrough
Moss Grotto is Silksong’s opening biome: low stakes, great for learning controls, with a few early secrets.
Clear pickups, practice pogo, then defeat the Moss Mother to reach Bone Bottom and kick off the journey.
1. Head right for a (dangerous) starting secret.
Jump into the right wall to find a hidden room and break a statue for Shell Shards.
Jump up to the hidden ledge: quickly tag the sleeping Marrowmaw and retreat; defeat it to gain a Beast Shard (140 Shards when cracked).
2. Climb higher into Moss Grotto.
From the start, go left, cut vines to enter the grotto; clear small moss enemies for Shards.
Climb and loop back right toward the next room. Hornet’s down‑slash is diagonal—get used to it.
3. Collect your first Rosary Beads.
In the next room, after a brief ailment, drop to the lower left ledge to loot a Frayed Rosary String.
Do not drop further (would reset); climb back up and head right.
4. Explore every corner of the next room.
Traverse bone‑lined terrain; jump spikes, defeat small foes, and loot Shard caches.
Climb ledges first to the right, then continue looping upward.
5. Pogo to reach the Mossberry at the top.
At the top‑left, use a flying enemy to pogo and hit the ceiling berries for a Mossberry.
If the flyer is gone, re‑enter to respawn it and try again.
6. Drop to find a hidden chest of Shards.
Exit left of the Mossberry; in the next screen drop and hug the left wall to land on a hidden ledge.
Cut vines to a secret, defeat two flyers, and open the chest for 28 Rosaries; then loop back up and over.
7. Defeat the Moss Mother.
Enter the Ruined Chapel, rest at the Bench, then climb to trigger the boss.
Boss tips: dodge sweeping dives, watch light rays for falling rocks, clear hatchlings; stay aggressive to finish quickly.
8. Reach the surface and enter Bone Bottom.
Take the left passage and use the rope to ascend; a cutscene introduces the Chapel Maid and main quest.
Exit right to Bone Bottom, meet NPCs (Pebb) and rest before moving on.
